Houston hits out over referee mix-up

Dundee United boss Peter Houston claims Iain Brines got two players mixed up when he sent off Jennison Myrie-Williams against Celtic.[LNB] Myrie-Williams had only just come on as a substitute for Danny Swanson in the 62nd minute when he was booked for a challenge on Aiden McGeady.[LNB]And there was controversy in the 76th minute when Brines showed him a second yellow for a foul on Landry NGuemo after indicating it was for persistent fouling.[LNB]Houston believes Brines got Myrie-Williams mixed up with Prince Buaben.[LNB]"It was unbelievable," he said. "He got the wrong guy, let him come out and say it.[LNB]"He had spoken to Prince Buaben minutes before that after a tackle and said, 'If you do that again you are going off the park.'[LNB]"I think he thought it was Prince.[LNB]"I thought it was really poor. When you start pointing all over the pitch for persistent fouling - to a guy who has been on the pitch for five minutes - he got it wrong.[LNB]"Myrie-Williams never left the touchline because I was shouting on him to do get over this side.[LNB]"It will be interesting to see what his report says."[LNB]Buaben added to the controversy by saying: "Jennison said that he thought the referee thought it was me but the referee should know, that's his job, he is a professional."[LNB]Brines was unavailable for comment.[LNB]A first-half strike from Diomansy Kamara and a late Robbie Keane penalty clinched second spot for the Parkhead club but it was a tetchy game which saw eight bookings aside from the Williams sending off.[LNB]Celtic's interim boss Neil Lennon, whose side won their fifth SPL game in succession, was full of praise for his side.[LNB]He said: "I thought the referee should have stamped down on things much earlier, for me there was only one team who tried to win the game.[LNB]"I thought they were crude in some of their challenges at times but I have to give credit to my boys they stood up to it and Brown looked as if he enjoyed it.[LNB]"Some of the football was magnificent. I thought we were different class and good value for the money.[LNB]"Brown was awesome and NGuemo was fantastic."[LNB]Houston, though, was on a roll and informed of Lennon's claim that only one side tried to play football, he snapped: "Maybe he should try and do it more often if he is quite happy with that.[LNB]"I don't think we got anywhere near our standards but once he has been on an 11 or 12-match unbeaten run and gets to the Scottish Cup final, then maybe he can come back and say he is happy.[LNB]"I have been proud of the guys who have played super football and it has been written about so it is wrong to say that we didn't try to play football."[LNB]On the subject of Brown, who had a running battle with Buaben and several other players during, Houston said: "Scott Brown went about slapping his hip pocket as if to say our players were in it and our players stupidly took the bait.[LNB]"Prince and (Fran) Sandaza so we have to make sure the discipline is right.[LNB]"He should show respect to footballers, we are all professional people."[LNB]Buaben was as forthright as Houston when it came to discussing his on-going feud with Brown in which during one spat, the United midfielder hit out at the Celtic skipper.[LNB]"I lifted my arm to be fair but it is was just frustration," he said.[LNB]"He kept talking but if it was off the pitch he wouldn't keep talking to me like that.[LNB]"I don't think he was disrespectful but he is too soft. He keeps moaning the whole time.[LNB]"He should just shut up and play football, I was playing my game. There is anger in me but I have to learn how to let go."[LNB]The only downside for Lennon was defenders Thomas Rogne and Glenn Loovens both having to go off with a recurrence of their hamstring injuries.[LNB]It was the first time that either had featured since February and Celtic finished the game with a central defensive partnership of Darren O'Dea and Mark Wilson.[LNB]Lennon said: "It was a gamble playing both of them and we will need to see how they are over the next few days.[LNB]"But O'Dea and Wilson were magnificent.[LNB]"We have a squad which are playing for each other which is great."
