Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain fired up for Aberdeen clash

Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain admits he has been fired up by his Aberdeen rejection throughout his career and not just when he faces the Dons.

Bain was released by Aberdeen as a teenager but quickly moved through Scotland's four divisions after being signed by Paul Hartley for both Alloa and Dundee.

The 24-year-old got to face Aberdeen five times last season, with each side winning once and drawing the other three games, and he is again relishing the prospect of facing the Dons at Dens Park on Saturday.

Bain said: "I like playing against them, I have done well against them in the past. It's more a case of trying to play well every week and if it comes against Aberdeen, it comes against Aberdeen.

"When you get told you're not good enough as a kid, you can go two ways: it can destroy you or make you stronger. It just built a belief in myself that they had made a mistake. I wanted to prove them wrong and prove myself right.

"That's why, when I first came to Dundee, I liked playing against Aberdeen a bit more."

Dundee captain Kevin Thomson is a major doubt after picking up a training-ground knock but Dons skipper Ryan Jack is in line to return following a recent ankle problem.

Graeme Shinnie is in line to start and the full-back is aiming to keep Aberdeen's unbeaten run going after being lifted by their return to the top two.

After leading the Ladbrokes Premiership following eight consecutive wins, the Dons dropped below both Celtic and Hearts during a run of five league games without a win.

But they have since won their last two home games, sandwiching a draw at Hamilton, which saw them leapfrog Hearts.

And Shinnie wants to make sure they beat their seventh-placed opponents this weekend.

"We had a couple of opportunities that we didn't take advantage of," the former Inverness player said. "Now after getting back into second we need to look to push away. All we can do is win our game and then everything else will fall into place.

"We're looking forward to this game on the back of last week's win. We are looking to string wins together again.

"In this league, you need to put a winning streak together like we did at the start of the season. It can do so much for you. This is a game we need to win to add to that unbeaten run.

"It's a case of cementing second place and putting as many points on the board as we can."
