Dundee still alive

Dundee kept their slim hopes of avoiding relegation from the Scottish Premier League alive with a 1-0 win over Hearts at Dens Park in a match where both sides ended with 10 men.

Hearts were reduced to 10 men after 28 minutes when defender Andy Webster was shown a second yellow card.

Brian Easton sent a header against the woodwork for Dundee before Ryan Conroy's 35-yard free-kick took a deflection off the defensive wall to send keeper Jamie MacDonald the wrong way as the Dark Blues took the lead in the 82nd minute.

Nicky Riley was sent off a minute before the end of normal time but the Dens Park side, who appointed John Brown as their permanent manager in midweek, held on for the win.

With St Mirren being held to a 3-3 draw away to Hibernian it means that Dundee's battle for survival continues until next weekend at least.

Their third straight victory means they are now only eight points behind the Paisley side with three games remaining.

Niall McGinn's 20th goal of the season secured a 1-0 victory for Aberdeen over Kilmarnock to give new Dons boss Derek McInnes a winning debut at Pittodrie.

Steven MacLean kept St Johnstone's European hopes alive with a late winner against ten man Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Inverness defender David Raven saw red in the 12th minute for a foul on Rowan Vine.

Both Gregory Tade and Mehdi Abeid hit the woodwork as St Johnstone pressed but the breakthrough didn't come until the 77th minute when Nigel Hasselbaink crossed for MacLean to head past Antonio Reguero.

The win moves St Johnstone up to fourth place in the SPL table, just a point behind Terry Butcher's Inverness side.
