Daly delighted with late draw

Jon Daly admitted his celebrations were tinged with a sense of relief after his 89th-minute strike earned Dundee United a point at St Mirren.[LNB] United had dominated and created a series of chances, but fell behind to Sean Lynch's debut goal on 73 minutes before captain Daly netted an equaliser to prevent his team undeservedly heading home empty-handed.[LNB]Daly said: "We lifted it and battled away after they scored and got what was deserved, as we deserved at least a point out of the game.[LNB]"Although it would have been great to get the win, we'll take a point having been a goal down with 15 minutes to go.[LNB]"There was a sense of relief when the goal went in. It's a weight off your shoulders to equalise and it's just a shame that there were only a couple of minutes left and we didn't have time to go and get the winner.[LNB]"We came here wanting to win and I think we were unfortunate that we didn't. We had plenty of crosses but it's turning them into chances, and the final ball is probably what let us down.[LNB]"Things just didn't seem to be going our way. Everything seemed to be dropping to them until the last minute when it just fell at my feet and I put it away.[LNB]"I had thought it looked as though it was going to be one of those days, because we were dominating, then St Mirren had their first real shot on target of the second half and it flew into the top corner with Dusan (Pernis) unable to do anything about it.[LNB]"St Mirren is a difficult place to come as they're a well-organised side and you know they're going to make it difficult for you, and once they got that goal it was always going to be tough for us to break them down.[LNB]"We didn't play particularly well as we didn't start well, were second to a lot of the ball and didn't press as well as we normally do, but it's important that you hit the ground running and after the first 15-20 minutes we got into it and dominated the game."[LNB]Lynch made it a dream debut by opening the scoring for a new-look St Mirren after 73 minutes.[LNB]The midfielder was one of six debutants in the side fielded by new manager Danny Lennon and says that confidence is high among his team-mates for the season ahead, including next weekend's trip to Celtic.[LNB]He said: "The coaching staff are extremely positive every day and training is extremely good. It's rubbing off on the players that it's important to have a positive mentality going into a long, hard season.[LNB]"We know that when we start to gel as a team and really complement each others' games we're going to get better and I think being a tight group can only be positive for the position we'll end up in at the end of the season.[LNB]"It was great to start with a goal. The game was hard work as Dundee United are a great team and one of the most consistent in the league outside the Old Firm.[LNB]"We did okay for periods and were resilient, but it's just unfortunate that we couldn't hold on at the very end.[LNB]"We knew when we looked at the fixtures that we had a tough start, especially when we have such a relatively new team, so we knew we had to be organised, fit and ready, and we can take positives out of this game to go into next week."
