Webster: Meeting helped stop rot

The Tangerines had been affected by the speculation linking their manager to the Scotland job and things went off the rails late last month when he finally left for the Hampden hotseat.[LNB]A Clydesdale Bank Premier League draw with Kilmarnock was followed by a 7-1 thrashing at Rangers before a home defeat to Aberdeen brought things to a head.[LNB]Webster may only be on loan from Ibrox but he cares about his work enough to know they had to stop the rot, so called all the players together in a bid to get to the root of their problems.[LNB]The Scotland international knows from his own experience what it is like to lose a manager but reckons the United squad are all now looking forward rather than back.[LNB]Webster, who will face Falkirk on Sunday, said: "I arranged the meeting for the boys to have a chat.[LNB]"You don't want to get beaten any time but as long as you put the effort in, you don't mind as much. Then you can come off the pitch knowing you've done your best.[LNB]"Without wanting to give too much away, I think in some recent games we didn't play particularly well.[LNB]"So it was a case of getting the boys together to see if we could clear up a few things.[LNB]"These things can be often be quite good, depending on when they are.[LNB]"Every so often, it has it's place but if you're doing it every second week then it can become a bit monotonous.[LNB]"I was a young boy at Hearts when the manager left and sometimes it can be difficult knowing how to deal with it.[LNB]"Craig Levein brought the majority of players into this football club and they, in turn, have a massive loyalty and respect towards him.[LNB]"So when things change - like being up in the air when nobody knows who's coming in - there can be an uncertainty that shouldn't affect you when you go onto the pitch but, for some of the younger players, it possibly did.[LNB]"Of course, there's a lot of young guys here. When we play young, middle and old in training there's guys just 23, 24, who are classed in the 'old' category.[LNB]"Things just come with experience. The longer you've played the game, the more you realise how things work and I think the last week or so has been good for us - we've turned the corner.[LNB]"It just shows you because we weren't playing particularly well up until the Scottish Cup game with Partick Thistle but things have taken off since then with two more wins over Hamilton and Hibs.[LNB]"A week's a long time in football and, in this case, it's certainly true. Now it's just a case of trying to keep that momentum going."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
