United angry at fixture change

The SPL clash at Tannadice has been switched from Saturday, May 9 to Thursday, May 7 to avoid a city clash with Dundee, who host Partick Thistle that weekend. The game could have huge significance in the race for a European spot and United bosses are unhappy the problem was not taken into account before the post-split fixtures were decided. A statement on the club's official website read: "Dundee United are hugely disappointed at the way this matter has been handled, with no cognisance taken of the situation within the city of Dundee when the fixtures were compiled. "It is a source of deep frustration and, indeed, anger that situations prevailing in other cities were taken into account prior to the post-split fixtures being determined but the fact that another senior football game was taking place at the same time, in the same street, in the same city, was not considered to be an issue. "This game is, arguably, the biggest game of the season for both Dundee United and Aberdeen and we are angry at being forced to move this away from the Saturday to a Thursday night. "Supporters may have already made arrangements to attend on the Saturday and, in any case, are again inconvenienced by this apparent lack of foresight. "A potential fixture clash with Dundee FC has been an ongoing issue for all of the time they have been in the SFL, and the SPL should have been well aware of this when drawing up the post-split fixtures." United claim the switch of date from a Saturday afternoon to a midweek evening kick-off will hit the club hard financially. "We are looking at a potential six-figure loss," Dundee United director Derek Robertson told BBC Scotland. "It's amazing the SPL can't change fixtures but could factor in a rugby match for Hearts and Hibs, a fun run in Glasgow for the Old Firm, yet were unable to recognise that two clubs in the same city were playing a game on the same day. "The fixture list for Dundee was published in June. It's not exactly rocket science."
