Levein has been given permission to hold talks with the Scottish Football Association about becoming the new national team boss and could meet with Hampden chiefs this week.[LNB]United chairman Stephen Thompson has not given up hope of retaining the services of his manager but would welcome Levein's suggestions for a new boss if he does leave the Tayside club.[LNB]Thompson told the Dundee Evening Telegraph: "Craig and I have a very honest and open relationship and at the weekend we had a long chat about the situation.[LNB]"We want to keep him, that's obvious, but for me it is important that, whatever happens, we maintain that relationship.[LNB]"He is someone we rate very highly and, because of that, I would be more than happy to listen to any suggestions he had regarding a successor, if it was to come to that.[LNB]"That is not to say I would pay heed to his recommendation, but, with his knowledge of the game, he is worth listening to."[LNB][LNB]
