Raith boss quiet on United link

It has been claimed Raith boss McGlynn is now one of the front-runners for the position but he would not discuss the matter when contacted.[LNB]United have been forced to look for alternatives after caretaker manager Houston chose not to apply for the role vacated by new Scotland boss Craig Levein last week.[LNB]Former Tannadice star Michael O'Neill, currently in charge at Shamrock Rovers, is said to be another leading candidate.[LNB]Houston decided he wanted to resume his role as first-team coach less than 24 hours after Wednesday night's 7-1 Scottish Premier League thrashing at Rangers.[LNB]He has refused to lay into his players following the result, insisting they already know how much they let themselves down.[LNB]Houston will take charge for Saturday's match against Aberdeen before taking a step back, and he is confident his players will end his tenure on a high.[LNB]He said: "Our players have personal pride and they have done well this season.[LNB]"So I'm not going to stand and slate them for what happened on Wednesday.[LNB]"We made a lot of individual errors and they know that.[LNB]"It's done now and the important thing is how they respond to it.[LNB]"What we can't forget is that we're fourth in the league and are only four points behind Hibs.[LNB]"We can still catch them, no doubt about that, but we need to string some results together.[LNB]"The confidence has dipped a bit and performances have not been great lately.[LNB]"That has been since before I took over as interim manager as well.[LNB]"We need to pick ourselves up, roll the sleeves up and get on with it."[LNB]Houston has worked at United for three years and is hoping to stay on in some capacity, although much will depend on who the new man is.[LNB]The 52-year-old former Falkirk player believes whoever comes into the hotseat will inherit a club still capable of going places.[LNB]He said: "There's not a lot wrong with this club; we've got a good, honest squad of players.[LNB]"We've not played to our capabilities lately and maybe on Wednesday the uncertainty had an impact on them a bit.[LNB]"They allowed their heads to go down, which isn't like them.[LNB]"But the main thing is they have a great chance to bounce back from that against Aberdeen.[LNB]"It won't be easy because they have been going along well and they are always close games.[LNB]"But it's a derby match, there will be a big crowd at it and I know the boys are determined to make up for what happened at Ibrox."[LNB]United will welcome back Andy Webster but Scott Robertson remains sidelined along with Lee Wilkie and Francisco Sandaza.[LNB][LNB]
