Levein drops Scotland job snub hint

Levein is due to meet with the Scottish Football Association to discuss succeeding George Burley in the national team hotseat.[LNB]The 45-year-old was loathe to reveal precisely what his demands will be when he sits down with SFA chief executive Gordon Smith.[LNB]But it appears having control over more than just first-team affairs will be high on the agenda, with Levein admitting he would need something to fill the void left by a lack of day-to-day managerial involvement.[LNB]"It's an issue," he said of the boredom factor. "The purpose of the meeting in my eyes is to find out a lot more about the job itself and find out what it entails.[LNB]"If it's just seven games, six games, five games a season, I don't know what I'm going to do for the rest of the time - if I get offered the job.[LNB]"What I want to do is try to speak to the people concerned and find out what's involved."[LNB]Asked if taking an active role in youth development would be another demand, he said: "I think it's the wrong way round to talk about that now when I haven't really spoken about it with the SFA.[LNB]"I certainly wouldn't like them to be talking about what they're going to be discussing at the meeting with me."[LNB]Levein wants that meeting to take place sooner rather than later to avoid keeping Tangerines fans guessing about his future.[LNB]"I think that some sort of certainty one way or the other in the near future would help everybody," said Levein, speaking after United's Clydesdale Bank Premier League game against Hamilton was called off today due to heavy snowfall.[LNB]"Whether they were to offer me the job or not offer me the job, I think that would be a valid point everybody would recognise."[LNB]Levein, who reiterated he was "dead keen" to manage his country, claimed he had had no contact with the SFA since they requested permission to speak to him on Thursday.[LNB]But that has suited the United boss just fine so far.[LNB]He said: "What I've done yesterday and today is just say to John Colquhoun, who looks after that side of things for me, I'm not really interested in finding out about anything other than the game today.[LNB]"Maybe tomorrow or Monday, I'll have a better idea what's going on.[LNB]"But I've locked that away in a box just now and tried to concentrate on the game today."[LNB]The SFA have stressed Levein is the only manager they have approached amid reports he was part of a shortlist drawn up for the vacancy.[LNB]The United boss said: "That's not a concern of mine, really.[LNB]"That's not something I've even thought about.[LNB]"It's like anything else: if Man United come in for me and I'm the 12th choice, I'm delighted.[LNB]"So this first-choice thing is not really a huge issue either.[LNB]"You either want to do the job or you don't want to do the job."[LNB]Even if Levein is offered and accepts the position, there is still the thorny issue of compensation to overcome, with United thought to want £500,000 for his services.[LNB]Levein, who has been in charge at Tannadice since October 2006, still has two-and-a-half years left on the contract he signed last December.[LNB][LNB]
