Houston 'warming' to Terrors task

Caretaker boss Houston ruled himself out of the running to succeed Craig Levein in the Tannadice hotseat following last month's 7-1 thrashing at Rangers.[LNB]Levein's long-time lieutenant claimed he was too close to the players but, after four wins in a row, he has had a change of heart.[LNB]"First of all, I have to receive an offer from the chairman to take the manager's job until the end of the season, or whatever else he might have in mind," Houston told the Daily Record.[LNB]"If that happens then I have to get this business over and done with because it comes up after every game we play and I don't want any distractions to get in the way of the team.[LNB]"If we win the next two games then I might expect to be asked to extend my management of the side.[LNB]"I'm warming to the job after a start that closed my mind to the idea of taking over from Craig. Now my mind is open to the possibility.[LNB]"I'm not saying I've suddenly become a top manager just because United have won four games on the bounce.[LNB]"But I know I've got decent human beings as well as football players at my disposal and I know they are receptive to the idea of working more closely with me."[LNB]Houston, who has been in charge since Levein was appointed Scotland manager a month ago, is also keen to take on a part-time role with the national team.[LNB]But were he to become United boss full-time, it is thought he would be less likely to be allowed to do this.[LNB][LNB] Dundee Utd v St. Johnstone.
