Houston - United will be fired up for final

Peter Houston is confident Dundee United will be back to their best in time for this weekend's Active Nation Scottish Cup final.

United failed to claim victory from their last four games in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League but the Tannadice boss insists there is no chance of an end-of-season slump wrecking their hopes of silverware.

"We've not won in the last couple of games but we did our job four weeks before the season ended when we beat Motherwell to finish third," said Houston.

"The boys worked ever so hard against Celtic and Rangers and we were beaten by the better team on the day.

"We should have won at Tynecastle with the chances we had and then, for Hibs, it was a very makeshift team.

"Most of the team who might be involved on Saturday weren't even on the pitch.

"I'm more than happy with the way our players played and I'm sure, come Saturday, they will be at it 100%. I'm sure, if we play to our best, we can win the cup.

"We trained yesterday and the tempo of the training was unbelievable. I was shutting my eyes because I thought they were going to get injured because they were smacking into each other.

"Thankfully, we've only got a couple more days to train and hopefully they behave themselves!"
