Hegarty confirmed as Terrors coach

Hegarty, who had a brief spell as manager there between October 2002 and January 2003, had been out of work since George Burley was sacked from the Scotland job in November.[LNB]He held talks with manager Peter Houston on Monday and his appointment was confirmed later the same day.[LNB]Houston said on the club's official website: "I am delighted to welcome Paul back at the club where he needs no introduction.[LNB]"From our time together at Hearts, I know him to be a first-class coach who will fit in perfectly with the way we train and play at Dundee United."[LNB]Hegarty added: "I am equally delighted to be back at my old club and pleased to assist the manager in every form.[LNB]"The team is in a very good position in terms of performance and league position, and it is our wish to continue that.[LNB]"I have watched United quite a few times this season and have been impressed with the attitude and performance of the team."[LNB]Hegarty had been assisting Burley for only six weeks when the Scottish Football Association wielded the axe.[LNB]The 55-year-old former Scotland defender spent 15 years at United during the most successful period in their history.[LNB]Thursday saw Houston appointed United boss until the end of the season.[LNB]He had been in charge on a caretaker basis following Craig Levein's departure for the Scotland job.[LNB][LNB]
