Gannon: More to come from Well

Ross Forbes scored the winner from the spot at Tannadice on Saturday but goalkeeper John Ruddy was the real hero as Gannon's young Steelmen also inflicted their hosts' first defeat of the campaign.[LNB]Motherwell held SPL big boys Aberdeen and Rangers to draws going into the match, all without conceding a goal.[LNB]New boss Gannon, who has rebuilt his team almost from scratch using the club's young players, admitted he was surprised how quickly he had managed to turn things around.[LNB]He arrived at the club this summer only to witness a pre-season defeat to Rhyl and a Europa League humiliation at the hands of Llanelli.[LNB]He said: "When I saw the team against Rhyl and then Llanelli, I didn't expect to be coming to the close of September unbeaten, especially when you look at the fixtures: Aberdeen away; Dundee (United) away; Rangers at home.[LNB]"We've added players and we've grown and I am surprised and really pleased.[LNB]"I'm delighted with the way it has worked out and there's still a little bit more to come."[LNB]Gannon did not have a clear view of on-loan Everton keeper Ruddy's incredible multiple save which preserved the visitors' lead.[LNB]It was boys' own stuff from the 20-year-old, and it will be difficult to find a better intervention from any keeper all season.[LNB]"Was it double or a triple?" Gannon asked.[LNB]"During that period, they put a lot of pressure on us.[LNB]"From my end, it looked like two fantastic saves, and probably a third save as well."[LNB]He added: "It's a massive three points."[LNB]"They've had a great start to the season; they're a very experienced, strong side and we had to work really hard and be really resilient today to get the clean sheet and the win.[LNB]"It wasn't the prettiest game but, great credit to the lads, when we get the opportunity to play, we play. When we've had to defend and be resilient, we've done that."[LNB]Gannon brought on Lukas Jutkiewicz just past the half hour mark, revealing he feared Steven Jennings could be given a second yellow card.[LNB]He said of Jennings, who came off the bench against Rangers last weekend: "I thought the half he played last week, he had every right to start this game.[LNB]"But he just looked a yard off the pace today and I felt that Lukas had trained really well and would give us a bit more of a platform up front."[LNB]United blew the chance to move joint top of the table after Rangers drew at Kilmarnock.[LNB]Only Prince Buaben and Nicky Weaver earned pass marks, according to manager Craig Levein, who felt his side missed the ill Morgaro Gomis and suspended Scott Robertson.[LNB]"We had too many lads who underperformed," he said.[LNB]"I don't think there's any doubt we missed Scotty and Morgaro in midfield because we never really played with the same gusto and sharpness of passing.[LNB]"I've said this season, we've got a stronger squad. Unfortunately today, it didn't look like it."[LNB]He added: "Our attacking play wasn't anywhere near the standards we've set in recent weeks.[LNB]"We didn't win the game because of that."[LNB]Sean Dillon conceded the penalty after switching from right to left full-back after Paul Dixon suffered a cut just below his left eye and was forced off.[LNB]Levein revealed Dixon needed stitches, adding: "We don't know if it's any worse than that."[LNB][LNB]
