Callum Morris hopes Dundee United can spark their season into life in League Cup
Dundee United defender Callum Morris aims to use their League Cup tie against Dunfermline as the spark to improve their season.
United have only won once this season and the Pars travel to Tannadice in contrasting form - the Ladbrokes League One side have netted an incredible 41 goals in all competitions so far.
Morris knows his former East End Park team-mates will be determined to bridge the two-division gap in the third-round tie but the centre-back sees it as the perfect opportunity to give themselves a much-needed lift.
Morris said: "I've been there myself when you are playing opposition from higher leagues. It's completely different to a league game - all the form goes out the window.
"It's going to be a tough game but if we do everything professionally I think we can get the win.
"They are playing well and scoring a lot of goals but hopefully this game can be a catalyst for the rest of the season.
"We can put on a good performance, get a win and kick on from it in the league."
United ended a four-game losing run with a 1-1 home draw against Inverness on Saturday but Jackie McNamara is convinced they are set to get among the goals just like their Fife visitors.
"With Dunfermline still full-time they have a lot of players who have maybe just dropped down from the top league and some experienced players in there," McNamara said.
"We know what to expect. It will be a difficult game because they are confident.
"We need to be more clinical, as we have said the last few weeks, to kill teams off.
"If we can get the second goal and get the shackles off, we feel we can go and score two, three or four goals."
Dunfermline hope that Jason Talbot and Shaun Rooney can overcome the injuries they picked up in Saturday's 5-0 win at Stenhousemuir and be ready to face their Premiership hosts.
Broken legs will keep Callum Fordyce and Ryan Williamson out, with a shoulder problem keeping Lewis Spence away from the action.
East End Park manager Allan Johnston said: "Dundee United may not have won at home for a while, however they have a talented squad who will come good. Billy McKay has already added goals to their play so we are in for a very tough evening.
"However, we beat Dundee in the last round so anything is possible."
