Dons boss upbeat despite draw

The Dons have now gone 11 games without a win, the worst by a Pittodrie side since 1927.[LNB]A Jon Daly double had given United an early lead in Saturday's Scottish Premier League encounter but the Dons fought back with a Zander Diamond header and a Michael Paton penalty in first-half injury-time.[LNB]McGhee said: "With going 2-0 down at home to our local rivals Dundee United on the back of the run we were on, it took a tremendous amount of attitude not to lose the place completely.[LNB]"However the players kept their shape and kept grinding away and eventually got the breakthrough. I was delighted and at that point I was hoping that they wouldn't throw the good work away and go on and lose the game but they didn't. They thoroughly deserved it."[LNB]McGhee felt his side should have been awarded a free-kick in the build-up to Daly's opener for United.[LNB]He said: "In a situation like this you feel the world is against you and I felt decisions went against us. Some of those decisions probably didn't but it just felt that way. Although I definitely think there was a decision in the first goal that did go against us when (David) Goodwillie came back from an offside position and touched the ball in the build-up to their goal.[LNB]"At that point it feels like everything is against us and the players had to overcome that as well, which they did."[LNB]McGhee believes the Dons will return to winning ways if they continue to perform in the same manner.[LNB]He added: "I think the supporters have the right to question why it has not been like that and why we have not had that effort in other games. It is difficult to answer that but now they have shown that we have to try maintain that until the end of the season."[LNB]Dundee United manager Peter Houston was annoyed his side dropped two points at Pittodrie after taking a commanding early lead.[LNB]He said: "We started magnificently well and Jon Daly came up with two fantastic finishes. I felt a wee bit of complacency set in after that as we should have continued to do the things that had got us 2-0 up.[LNB]"I was frustrated that we gave away plenty of needless free-kicks in inviting areas and the one thing that Aberdeen are is a huge threat at set-plays through Charlie Mulgrew.[LNB]"The other frustrating thing was conceding a penalty 15 seconds before the end of the first half. Sean Dillon needlessly went into a challenge that he didn't have to and he is disappointed with that. That gave Aberdeen a huge lift to get them back in the match.[LNB]"The second half could have gone either way, although the best chance of the half fell to Daly but Jamie Langfield made a good save. I'm a wee bit frustrated but the players worked their socks off today and dug in which is great credit to them."[LNB]However, Houston was pleased his side gained ground on their rivals for third spot Hibernian, who had lost to Hearts earlier in the day, and Motherwell who did not have a fixture.[LNB]He added: "Of the teams challenging for third spot we are the only team to have picked up a point today so we are happy with that."[LNB][LNB]
