Daly backs Houston for top job

Daly hit a hat-trick on Sunday as United cruised to a 4-1 triumph at Falkirk and moved back to third place in the SPL.[LNB]Houston had insisted he had no interest in succeeding new Scotland manager Craig Levein as United boss, claiming he was too close to the players and that he enjoyed coaching.[LNB]But Daly declared he would be a popular choice after United produced a polished display from back to front, with only an injury-time goal from Pedro Moutinho preventing Dusan Pernis from keeping a fourth successive clean sheet.[LNB]"He might have said what he said hastily," the former Stockport striker said.[LNB]"We got beat 7-1 at Rangers, that would turn anyone off management.[LNB]"The boys have got over the shock of the manager leaving and he has put his stamp on things now.[LNB]"I would love to see him getting the job and I know from speaking to other players, they would like to see him get it too.[LNB]"If he does change his mind, that would be brilliant for the club and players."[LNB]Daly argued there were no major changes necessary in Houston's approach to his players.[LNB]"Obviously he has got to change a little but I honestly don't think he has to change that much," Daly added.[LNB]"He's a good coach and he knows his stuff tactically. If he just goes about doing what he has been doing, there is no reason for him to change into a bad cop.[LNB]"Apart from the first couple of results, which were always going to be tough, he has done a great job.[LNB]"Any other manager that came in and did that would be given the job straight away."[LNB][LNB]
