Caretaker job no problem for Houston

The former Falkirk player, who worked with new Scotland boss Craig Levein at Hearts, Leicester and then United, has been handed the Tannadice reins on a temporary basis following his boss's departure to Hampden.[LNB]He takes charge during a positive period for the club; they sit fourth in the Scottish Premier League and have lost only two matches this season.[LNB]Houston will be given a minimum of four matches in charge and is a candidate for the post, but insists he is simply focused on maintaining the Tangerines' good form.[LNB]He said: "I'm delighted to be given the job on a caretaker basis.[LNB]"For the next few games, perhaps up until the Scottish Cup tie with Partick Thistle in early January, I'll be in charge of the team.[LNB]"I'm quite happy and relaxed about the situation.[LNB]"Usually, when a manager leaves the club and a caretaker is appointed, they're struggling near the bottom of the table.[LNB]"But this is an entirely different scenario. At the end of the day, we've only lost two games this season.[LNB]"We're on a roll - the players have been enjoying their football - so it's all about continuity.[LNB]"We've got a great bunch of lads here and it's obviously nice if some of them were saying nice things about me.[LNB]"We've got a great team spirit here so everyone is used to pulling together."[LNB]Houston may be offered a part-time coaching post within the Scotland set-up in the near future but, at the moment, his only focus is on his job at Tannadice.[LNB]The 51-year-old understands why Levein opted to head for pastures new and has backed him to be a success as national coach.[LNB]He said: "It was one the gaffer couldn't turn down.[LNB]"It will increase his profile no end and he really does deserve this opportunity.[LNB]"I've enjoyed working with him over the years and got to know him really well.[LNB]"Like everyone else in the country, I wish him all the very best. I'm sure he'll rise to the challenge like he always does."[LNB][LNB]
