Ross looks to lift Sons

Bottom of the table Dumbarton will have assistant manager Jack Ross in charge against visitors Airdrie following this week's dismissal of Alan Adamson.

Ross will be without injured pair Kevin Nicol and Pat Walker as the Sons chase their first win of the season, which would lift them to within two points of the Diamonds.

Ross said: "This game has an added dimension to it as both teams come into it after difficult weeks.

"I will be taking the team for the first time and Airdrie are coming here after losing 7-0, so it could be a case of who bounces back the highest.

"A win would be great for our confidence and give us a lift at a crucial time of the season."

Airdrie will be without the suspended Scott Sally for the clash.

Sally was sent off as the Diamonds capitulated in last Saturday's 7-0 defeat at Partick.

Defender Cameron MacDonald and midfielder Sean Lynch miss out again with knocks, but top goalscorer John Boyle and defender Gavin Griffin could return.

Manager Jimmy Boyle said: "I'm still very sore about our performance last week and this game will be a real test of character for the players.

"Dumbarton will come out fighting for the two points that will close the gap on ourselves at the foot of the table and the players have to be able to handle that.

"I want a major reaction to last week's performance."
