Doncaster Rovers have signed former Sheffield Wednesday striker Michele Di Piedi on an initial short-term deal running until January.
The 25-year-old Italian had trials with Yeovil Town and Gillingham earlier this summer, before finally linking up with Rovers, having rejected the chance to join Perugia back in his homeland.
Di Piedi netted seven goals in 82 games for the Owls between 2000 and 2003, while he has also played on loan for Bristol Rovers.
He told the club's official website: "I left England when my child was ill, but my wife wanted to come back to this area now instead of signing for Perugia.
"I wanted to come here because of the ambition and the chance now I am older to win medals. I want to give the Doncaster fans success and show them what I can do."
Meanwhile, summer signing Kevin Horlock faces a stint on the sidelines, the veteran midfielder having undergone surgery on a knee injury.
