Upbeat Wellens eyes upturn

Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens is convinced Sean O'Driscoll's side will eventually move out of the relegation zone.

Since winning promotion via the play-offs in May, Rovers have struggled at the higher level and are currently bottom of the table having lost 11 of their first 16 Championship fixtures.

However, Wellens remains upbeat, telling the Sheffield Star: "People probably see us down at the bottom having lost again against Sheffield Wednesday and will have thought that we are the league's whipping boys, but we aren't.

"Their manager (Brian Laws) was saying 'well done' to all the lads as we came off. I think that he was slightly embarrassed that they'd won the game.

"We may be bottom but, if you look at our second-half performance, I don't think that anyone could have questioned any of the players in terms of enthusiasm and commitment."
