Thomas steps it up
Doncaster defender Wayne Thomas has moved closer to a return to first-team action following a successful run-out with the reserves this week.Thomas, who has made only two appearances for Doncaster since arriving on a free transfer from Southampton in the summer due to a knee injury, played for an hour in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hull. The 31-year-old said: "I actually fractured my tibia. I chipped a little bit of bone off the back of the knee."I'm two or three weeks ahead of schedule and now it's a case of bringing me up to fitness, more specifically match fitness and just getting that sharpness back. My knee feels good. Obviously, you need to get the mileage back into your legs so to speak."You can run on treadmills, you can swim, you can go on cross trainers and bikes, but there's no substitute for game time and game situations."Hopefully I can recover very quickly, which is important, and be available when called upon."
