Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll thinks Richie Wellens can help his side mount a promotion push this season, after making the midfielder his fifth summer signing.
The 27-year-old has penned a two-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium after being a regular in the Oldham Athletic side in the last two campaigns.
"We knew Richie was available and out of contract at Oldham," O'Driscoll told the club's official website.
"We registered an interest. He's an ambitious boy who explored every avenue open to him and we were one of, I think, two clubs who actually put offers on the table.
"He wants to play in the Championship and he raises the standard of the squad."
Former Manchester United trainee Wellens added: "It feels good. I've come to a club that's on the up - an ambitious club.
"I hope that I can achieve the aim here, which is to get in the Championship."
