Rovers Furman- Dickov will help players
Dean Furman says the Rovers squad can expect plenty of hard work under Paul Dickov.
The South Africa midfielder knows Dickov better than most in the Doncaster dressing room having played under him at Oldham for two years.
Furman, 25, ensured a continuation of that relationship last week when he signed a two-year deal with Rovers, where he spent the last six weeks of the League One championship winning campaign on loan.
While he has warned of the hard work ahead, Furman says players will have a license to express themselves under Rovers’ new boss.
“First and foremost he’s the type of manager that wants his players to work hard,”
“That’s his base. From there he’s not too rigid in how he wants us to play.
“He wants us to play with freedom and excitement and I think we’ve got the players here in this team who can do that going forward.
“We’ve got players at the back who can look to be stable and allow others to go and express themselves.
“He’s a player’s type of manager.
“Training is great and while it’s exciting, everything is done realistically towards a match and going into games.
“I’ve done pre-season with the gaffer so I’m used to it, but it doesn’t get any easier.
“It’s hard but at the same time it’s enjoyable. We’ve had the footballs out a lot.
“I think we’ve showed in pre-season that we’ll work very hard when we’ve not got the ball but express ourselves when we do.”
Dickov’s fiery side was introduced to the Keepmoat crowd during the friendly with Motherwell on Saturday as he argued with officials and failed to hide his frustration with some of his own players.
Furman believes Dickov’s fire helps rather than hinders players.
He said: “We all need that in us.
“All players and managers are different.
“It definitely rubs off well on the players.
“I’ve worked with the gaffer and the staff for the last three years.
“I had a great relationship with him at Oldham and I’m delighted to join up with him again.”
