Rovers complete Brooker raid

Doncaster Rovers have moved to try and improve their dismal goalscoring record this season by signing Bristol City striker Steve Brooker on an initial month's loan.

The 27-year-old has been plagued by injury problems in recent times and has slipped well down the Ashton Gate pecking order as a result.

Brooker had seemed set to remain with City despite a number of enquiries over his availability, before Rovers moved in to get their man.

City boss Gary Johnson told his club's official website: "Steve needs to get fit and for that he needs games. This loan is with a view to a permanent signing."

Brooker started his career with Watford, before making his name during a productive three-and-a-half-year stint with Port Vale.

He moved to Bristol in September 2004 and scored 39 goals in 110 appearances for the Robins in all competitions.
