O'Connor blow for Rovers

Doncaster Rovers defender James O'Connor has admitted defeat in his bid to play through the pain barrier after being sent for hernia surgery.

O'Connor was hoping to play on until the end of the season before going under the knife but will now be out of action until around mid-March.

"James has been having discomfort for some while," manager Sean O'Driscoll told the club's official website.

"He's only been training a couple of times a week and, if the player isn't happy, there's no point in prolonging the decision to have surgery.

"James felt that his groin wasn't right, so he decided to get it done."
