Doncaster Rovers have released five players - strikers Tomi Ameobi, Darren Byfield, Jason Price and Gareth Taylor as well as central defender Gordon Greer.
The quintet were only bit-part players for Rovers last season and were all farmed out on loan at some stage of the campaign.
Meanwhile, boss Sean O'Driscoll has praised his squad for their amazing turnaround in form during the second half of the season, but has warned that next term will be even harder.
He commented: "Staying in the division has been an achievement and we have hit a lot of our targets.
"We deserve to be here. We have played football some people have rated as the best in the division and it's no fluke that we are where we are.
"We thought it was going to be difficult and it's going to be more difficult next season. We have to be stronger."
