Diouf signs new Doncaster deal

Senegal international El-Hadji Diouf signed a new 18-month deal with struggling Doncaster Rovers on Friday despite the club staring at relegation into the third tier of English football.

The 30-year-old Diouf, who was released by Blackburn last season, originally joined Rovers on a three-month deal at the end of October.

But he will now stay at the Yorkshire club, who are second from bottom of the Championship, until the end of next season.

"He's probably the best signing this club has ever made," Rovers manager Dean Saunders told the BBC.

"The way everybody has taken to him here, I think he's happy. He's probably got enough money, and just wants to be somewhere he's valued. He's signed a modest contract, a lot less than some of the players who are already here."

Diouf, a two-time winner of the African Footballer of the Year award, previously played for Liverpool, Bolton, Sunderland and Rangers.
