Dickov-We can do well in the Championship

Paul Dickov wants to create a legacy of 'doing a Doncaster'.

Rovers’ boss will have his work cut out in the Championship next season, with his resources dwarfed by a catalogue of clubs whose recent history includes spells in the Premier League.

Relegated trio Wigan Athletic, Queens Park Rangers and Reading alone will receive parachute payments worth £60 million over the next four years.

But Dickov does not see the great money divide as a barrier preventing Doncaster from being successful at a higher level.

More so, he wants Rovers to become a template for smaller clubs looking to climb the Football League ladder.

“Look at Blackpool over recent years, or look were Wigan were four, five, six years ago,” said Dickov.

“There are clubs like ourselves who can go out there and cause teams problems and do well in the Championship.

“I’m talking about what Blackpool and Wigan have done, but why can’t we be the mandate in years to come?

“Why can’t other teams say ‘Doncaster have done it this way and been successful’?

“That’s got to be the plan, not just for next season but the future as well.

“We want to be competitive and play with a lot of belief,” he added. “I want to give the players belief and I want to give the fans belief.

“I said when I first got the job if you’re constantly talking about consolidation, relegation battles and finishing fourth from bottom, sooner or later you’ll find yourself there. You have to be positive.

“Every game next season I’ll be sending the team out there to win it.”

Dickov is continuing to work hard behind the scenes and is busy sounding out several players about a move to the Keepmoat Stadium, and the Scot is nothing but thorough
