Boss praises exiting Roberts

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has praised left-back Gareth Roberts for being upfront about his imminent move to Derby County.

The 32-year-old Wales international joined Rovers in the summer of 2006 and has made well over 150 appearances for O'Driscoll's side, but has now opted to move on to join the Rams.

"Gareth has been totally up front about everything," O'Driscoll told the club's official website.

"At 32 years of age he doesn't have to talk to you via somebody else - he'll come and have a chat. We have done what we can to keep him, but we are still far away from what he has been offered.

"I've got nothing but praise for Gareth. Since we walked through the door, he has been a first-class professional and got better.

"That is football and I think that he has found the decision difficult and at his age you understand that if he wants to move to pastures new, not to push him away.

"I would love him to have stayed, but you have to be practical."
