Cotterill stunner helps see off Saddlers

Summer signing David Cotterill scored a wonder goal as Doncaster strolled to a 3-0 win over Walsall at the Banks's Stadium and announced their intention to return to the Championship at the first attempt.

The former Barnsley player unleashed a remarkable drive from near the halfway line which caught home goalkeeper David Grof off his line and sailed into the roof of the net in the 26th minute.

Doncaster were already ahead after a neat move saw fellow new boy Billy Paynter set up Chris Brown to score with a low shot that Grof should have saved as early as the fifth minute.

Walsall played some neat football but had no penetration and look set for yet another struggle against relegation, though winger Ashley Hemmings was unlucky to see a fierce drive blocked.

Rovers finished off the Saddlers in the 56th minute when Kyle Bennett cut inside and drifted a lovely shot into the top corner of the net.

Walsall made several changes in an effort to get a consolation goal but Rovers were far too strong at the back and coasted to an easy three points.
