Rovers Martin Woods hoping for cup success

Doncaster Rovers hit the Carling Cup trail tonight when taking on League Two outfit Accrington Stanley in a first round tie at the Keepmoat Stadium Rovers came within 60 seconds or so of reaching the semi-final for the first time in their history back in the 2005-06 season after taking the scalps of Aston Villa and Manchester City en-route, but have made little impact on the competition since then."It would be good for the fans and good for the club to have another good Cup run," said midfielder Martin Woods."The league is obviously the priority but that's not to say that won't be trying just as hard in the Carling Cup competition."The two clubs met at Belle Vue in the early stages of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Belle Vue in the year Rovers won the trophy. But the Lancashire club will be making their first appearance at the Keepmoat Stadium.Despite the fact that Rovers will start overwhelming favourites, Woods said they would not be taking them for granted."They'll be a hard-working side on the night and I am expecting it to be a tough game," he said. "As was the case when we reached the quarter-final a few years ago, there will be no pressure on them because they are playing a side two divisions higher than them away from home."Having said that I wouldn't expect them to come here tonight and play without any fear."I think that they will probably try and shut up shop and try and catch us on the counter attack because at home we'll be able to play against most teams and cut them apart if they try and attack us. As I say, it will be a tough game and one that we'll possibly need to be a bit patient."They'll be used to playing a different sort of football. League Two is probably a bit more physical and a bit more route one than the Championship."I'm probably generalising and not every team will play like that in the league. "But the majority of the teams in League Two will try and play percentage football and get the ball in the right areas and try and play off it."I certainly don't expect them to be naive enough to adopt gung ho tactics against us."The majority of the teams we'll play in the Championship won't play like that against us and I don't think it will be any different for Accrington."Hopefully we can get through and then draw another big team in the league like we did last year when we drew Spurs at home."One of the big things about playing in a cup competition is that it can give you the opportunity to play against big-name players and big clubs."We lost 5-1 against Spurs, who were on fire at the time last season, but I don't think that it was a fair result."I think Spurs manager Harry Rednapp said after the game that we'd outplayed them in the first 20 to 25 minutes
