Doncaster Rovers head of youth Paul Wilson has signed eight new players for next season's' Under-18 youth team squad. Four of the players have come through the club's Centre of Excellence teams with the the others being picked up from scouting missions and recommendations. The players, one of whom came up from Felixstowe, came to the Keepmoat Stadium this week for a medical and to fill in all the relavent forms to sign up for the youth team They later had a meeting with Paul Bartlett from the League Football Education organisation to discuss their education whilst with Rovers. LFE manage the educational programme for apprentices at Football League clubs over a two-year period, All the players will join the Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (ASE), which provides a co-ordinated and streamlined approach to the delivery of education. As part of the scheme all will attend Doncaster College to continue their education in tandem with football coaching and training.Said Wilson: "This is where all the hard work starts for these lads as they go full time after being at school and part of Academies/Centre of Excellences. "We also look at furthering their education and qualifications off the field which is just as important. Next season they will start on the first rung of the full-time football ladder and will get the chance to interact and train with the first team. It will be quite a jump up for some of these lads but I am optimistic about their abilities and futures
