Chairman speaks about the appointment of the new manager

Paul Dickov is the perfect fit forDoncaster Rovers, according to chairman John Ryan.

The former Manchester City striker’s enthusiasm, vision for the club and contacts within the game saw him edge Michael Appleton for the job.

Dickov is likely to use those contacts to good effect over the summer and that, combined with his passion for developing young players and potential as a coach, is why the Scot was unveiled at yesterday’s press conference.

His style of play and hard work ethic also matched the club’s requirements.

“This was a unanimous decision,” said Ryan.

“We knew this was a critical appointment having just got back into the Championship and we wanted someone who could take us on from where we are now.

“We were very impressed with Paul, particularly with the way his Oldham side played against us three times last season.

“Paul’s got all the credentials to go on and become a fantastic manager in years to come.

“He’s very organised, very hard-working, very enthusiastic and he has a knack of picking the right players in the right position.

“Although there was some stiff competition, Paul came on top of our 18-point matrix and during the interviews.

“We’ve done all we can to acquire the best manager we feel for Doncaster Rovers.

“It was important the new manager fitted in with our philosophy and has the ability to improve players from where they are now,” he added. “That’s something that’ll be very important next season.”
