Guidetti is on Dickov’s ‘A-list’ of targets and Doncaster’s well-connected boss had hoped to sweet talk his former club into a loan deal for the highly-rated Swede.
But he now faces competition from Dutch giants Feyernoord as well as a host of Premier League clubs.
Doncaster’s pursuit of Guidetti might have shades of the club’s publicised interest in Manchester United starlet Nick Powell for fans - appearing on the face of it to be unrealistic.
But Dickov’s connections with City make a suprise move to the Championship a genuine possibility.
Indeed, such is Rovers’ intent on pulling a rabbit out of the hat, the club were thought to be unhappy with reports last month that they were lagging behind several Premier League clubs in the race for the 21-year-old frontman.
