Rovers hoping for Payne deal

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll is hoping to sign former West Ham midfielder Josh Payne on a short-term contract. The 19-year-old, released by the Hammers in July, has impressed the Rovers management team with his displays in several pre-season friendlies and O'Driscoll wants to fill the void left by the injured John Oster. O'Driscoll told the club's official website: "If we could do something short-term with Josh, then I think that we would. "He's got options elsewhere and at the moment we're just waiting to see if we can agree something. "With Johnny Oster out, getting a midfielder in is something of a priority. It makes Josh's situation a little more clear-cut. "He has the opportunity to come in and play, rather than just being a squad member. That's in progress at the moment."
