Defender Mustapha Dumbuya is in line to make his Championship starting debut for Doncaster Rovers in Saturday's opener against Preston North End at Deepdale. Dumbuya, who joined Rovers last summer after impressing as a trialist in pre-season, was restricted to three appearances off the bench last season due to the outstanding form of James Chambers. But with Chambers, still around a month away from being fit following knee surgery, missing the whole of the pre-season, Dumbuya has taken his chance to impress with both hands in the warm-up games. He was man-of-the-match in the 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last Tuesday and also caught the eye in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.Mustapha had been doubtful after suffering a shoulder injury against the Baggies but proved his fitness in training late in the week."I was pleased how I played in both games, though I can do better - there is always room for improvement," said Dumbuya.Looking back on his first season in professional football, the Londoner said: "Last season was a learning curve for me."It's not as much about what you learn as settling in and developing your confidence."I feel part of the squad now and now that my confidence is up so I can express what I am about."The team play such good football that it is easy to keep the ball and pass and move into space. A lot of opposing teams can't handle it."There will be a lot of competition for places when everyone is fit.But it's not a problem because you need to have a big squad to be able to rotate the players."He added: "As a squad we have worked hard during pre-season and everyone thinks that we can push on, so hopefully everything will go well.
