Rovers chief backs midfielder
Midfielder Wellens is alleged to have spat at Swansea's Leon Britton during the Swans' 3-1 win at the Liberty Stadium last month.
The FA have given Wellens until April 7 to respond to the charge and Morris insists the club are fully behind the midfielder.
"We are surprised and shocked by the charge brought by the FA, as it is only backed by the testimony of Leon Britton with little or no supporting evidence," Morris told the club's official website.
"The club will fully support Richie in his defence of this charge."
