Rovers captain Brian Stock hopeful of a return to squad

Doncaster Rovers influential skipper Brian Stock hopes to be back in action sooner rather than later following a visit to his specialist this week "The specialist has seen the scans of my back and he says that the surgery I had last summer has been a success and he doesn't see why I should get any recurrence in the future," said the midfielder."I saw him this week about my current back problem and he doesn't think that I will need an operation. "Obviously if the symptoms do persist then he'll have to operate."But he says that he doesn't want to operate and he doesn't feel as though my back needs it."I've had an injection to try and reduce the inflammation of the nerve,"It is frustrating not being able to play; it's not been a good season."It is the first time in my career that I've only played a handful of games; it is something new to me."In the past I've been able to play on with most of my injuries - as was the case last season with my back."Obviously I couldn't do that when I injured my ankle early in the season and needed an operation which kept me out for four months,"No sooner had I got back playing again, than I started having problems with my back. I've banged my head against a brick wall a few times but I've just got to get on with it."I'm hoping that once the back problem is cured that I'll be okay."With my back having been in spasm my spine needs a lot of mobilising. But once that is all done, and John the physio is happy with it, then I'll be back in training."How long will I be out? How long is a piece of string?"It's just a case of waiting until my body's right. "It's not like a broken arm or a broken leg where you know roughly how long it is going to take to heal."The problem that I've got is that it is one of those things that when I feel right I'll go back into training."Fortunately the lads have done really well while I have been out and they've picked up some great results and scored some good goals."It is pleasing to see that we are now looking above rather than below having looked to have secured our place in the Championship, which was always our priority."We've got some big games coming up in the next few days that I'd love to have been involved but I'll be there supporting the lads."
