Rovers take on Preston in their first home game on August 15 and turn out three days later at the Keepmoat Stadium in their first midweek clash against Coventry. A trip to Middlesbrough on August 22 and a home match against Cardiff completes a tough-looking first month, while Rovers fans do not have to wait long for the first of eight local derby clashes. Doncaster take on Scunthorpe and Sheffield United (both away) and Barnsley in little over a fortnight at the end of September and early October, while a first meeting against Sheffield Wednesday is scheduled for December 8 at the Keepmoat. Rovers are at Coventry on Boxing Day, Sheffield Wednesday on February 16 and Barnsley on March 27, while Sheffield United and Scunthorpe visit the Keepmoat Stadium on March 20 and April 24 respectively. Clashes against Newcastle are on March 23 (home) and October 24 (away) and Sean O'Driscoll's side face a trip to Swansea on the final day.
