Rover and out

Doncaster have pulled out of the Joma South-West Challenge Cup in Devon after completing their first match in the tournament on Wednesday night. The decision to withdraw from the event, won last year by Blackpool, has been prompted by injuries and tournament organisers' refusal to change the rules, which allow only for three substitutions per game. Rovers lost their opening match to Havant & Waterlooville. A club statemjent read: "This decision was made by the Doncaster Rovers management prior to Wednesday evening's game against Havant & Waterlooville but we agreed to fulfil the fixture so as not to disappoint our dedicated supporters who had travelled down to Devon to get behind the team. "Due to challenging injuries affecting members of the squad, the allowance of only three playable substitutions and the close proximity of the matches, Doncaster Rovers felt that it was impossible to field a side in the tournament without jeopardising preparations for the start of the 2010/11 Championship season."
