Pires rejects Doncaster move

Former France and Arsenal star Robert Pires claims to have rejected an approach from npower Championship club Doncaster.

The 38-year-old playmaker has been without a club since his release by Aston Villa last summer.

Pires Tweeted: "Doncaster people called me! I am happy they think I can help them but it's not in my plan to play there."

Doncaster have embarked on a radical transfer policy under the guidance of agent Willie McKay in recent weeks.

In his position as a transfer consultant, McKay is looking to provide manager Dean Saunders with established names currently without a club or out of favour with their current employers on short-term contracts and low wages, providing a shop window for their talents.

Aside from the intended boost on the pitch, Rovers will also benefit from sell-on clauses inserted into the deals for the players they bring in. El-Hadji Diouf, Pascal Chimbonda and Herita Ilunga are among the names to have moved to the Keepmoat since Saunders' appointment as manager in September.
