Josh Payne has shunned home comforts in order to make the most of his chance at Doncaster. The Basingstoke-born midfielder has earned a six-month deal at the Keepmoat Stadium and opted for the move to South Yorkshire ahead of an offer from Brentford. Payne, a former West Ham trainee, caught the eye of Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll while playing for the Hammers' second string, and he is determined to grasp the opportunity of first-team Championship football. "I'm delighted to have been offered a six-month contract and I'm hoping to do well enough during during that time to win myself a longer contract, as others did who were in my situation this time last year," the 19-year-old told The Star. "Like any footballer I want to play at the highest level I can. But more than anything I want to enjoy playing the game. I like to play the sort of football that we play here, so I'm enjoying it. "It would be great to be involved at Preston on Saturday and to have the chance to try and make an impact."
