Gunn hails battling Canaries

The Canaries came from behind to hold their fellow strugglers at the Keepmoat Stadium, a result which extended Gunn's unbeaten start as Canaries boss to three games.[LNB]Defender Jonathan Grounds, on loan from Middlesbrough, nodded home Wesley Hoolahan's clipped ball in to the area in the 61st minute to cancel out Paul Heffernan's close-range header midway through the first half.[LNB]The visitors had to rely on some dogged defending and fine goalkeeping from David Marshall to hold on to the point as Rovers sought out a winner late on.[LNB]And Gunn felt the determination in his side to move up their table was evident.[LNB]He said: "That was the main reason I took the job in the first place, the response from the players in the first game against Barnsley (which Norwich won 4-0).[LNB]"The team have shown great battling qualities. I am sure if we keep up that level of performance we will move up the table away from the precarious position we are still in.[LNB]"We have got some leaders in the dressing room. (Their attitude is) this is not the position we want to be in and let's get out of it."[LNB]Gunn revealed he would be looking to bring some new faces in to bolster the squad before the transfer window closes.[LNB]"We will do our utmost to bring quality players in to this football club. I will be on the phone on the way back on the bus. There are lots of phone calls and lots of potential new signings."[LNB]Forward Darel Russell was taken off just before half-time after clashing in an aerial challenge with Matt Mills, but Gunn is hopeful the injury is not too serious.[LNB]"Darel was taken to the local hospital, it's a blow to the side of the head," he said. "But they don't think it is a fracture."[LNB]Doncaster had taken the lead in the 23rd minute as Heffernan marked his return to the attack with a goal.[LNB]The striker followed up to nod home from close range after Norwich keeper Marshall had made a brave initial save.[LNB]It was, though, not enough to prevent the hosts' four-game winning run from coming to an end, although they are now unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions.[LNB]Both sides missed decent chances after the break, Jamie Cureton being denied by Neil Sullivan and Jon Otsemobor blazing high over the bar for Norwich.[LNB]At the other end Marshall then had to be at his athletic best to tip the impressive James Coppinger's fierce drive over the bar and Mills sidefooted over after getting free round the back from a free-kick.[LNB]Despite those chances, Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll felt the state of the pitch hampered his side.[LNB]"It's a pitch more suited to growing potatoes than playing football," he said. "We like to pass the ball around, we are not a team that goes route one. But we will just have to get a bit more savvy."[LNB]O'Driscoll revealed he expects to complete the signing of Dean Shiels from Hibernian on Monday.[LNB]"He can play in a variety of positions, is technically very good and wants to play in the Championship," he said.[LNB]He also made it clear there had been no approach for highly-rated defender Mills, who has been linked with a move to promotion hopefuls Birmingham.[LNB][LNB]
