Fingers crossed for Donny duo

Doncaster hope to have Martin Woods and David Syers back for the visit of promotion rivals MK Dons.

Woods and Syers have missed out recently with thigh and ankle injuries respectively but both could return to the Rovers midfield on Saturday.

"They'll both have a chance of being fit, they are probably 50-50," said manager Dean Saunders.

With Kyle Bennett struggling to recapture his early-season form since his return from a six-week lay-off with a knee ligament problem, Woods could start out wide against the Dons if he proves his fitness.

Saunders added: "Woodsie did a good job for us playing on the left before he was injured."

Box-to-box midfielder Syers would also be pushing strongly for a starting role following Rovers' sluggish performance in losing 4-1 at home to Coventry last weekend.

Saunders has the likes of Shelton Martis, Jamie McCombe and Andy Griffin waiting in the wings should he wish to make any changes to his defence.

Leading scorer David Cotterill (stomach bug) came off after 25 minutes against Coventry and he is a doubt for Saturday's game.

MK Dons are set to name an unchanged squad for the trip.

Centre-half Gary MacKenzie remains out until the new year with a hip injury while on-loan striker Patrick Bamford (hamstring) continues to be assessed by his parent club Chelsea.

In Bamford's absence Ryan Lowe will be hoping to keep his place up front, looking for his fourth goal in as many npower League One matches.

Alan Smith, Ibra Sekajja and Charlie MacDonald are all vying for Lowe's place in the team though. All three gained valuable minutes in the Dons' Berkshire and Buckinghamshire County Senior Cup victory over Aylesbury on Wednesday night.

Just one point and one place in the table separates Doncaster and the Dons, who have yet to beat Rovers in four previous meetings between the two clubs.
