Sharp blow for Rovers

Billy Sharp will miss Doncaster's crucial South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley.

The on-loan Southampton striker was sent off for violent conduct during the latter stages of last weekend's defeat at Brighton and will start a three-match ban.

Richie Wellens is also unavailable to boss Paul Dickov as the midfielder completes a two-game suspension, but Harry Forrester has returned to training and should be available.

Defender Gabriel Tamas was withdrawn at half-time against the Seagulls as a precaution and should overcome a hamstring problem in time to face the Tykes.

Emmanuel Frimpong returns to contention for Barnsley following suspension, but fellow midfielder Jacob Mellis sits out the second game of his three-match ban.

Frimpong, on loan from Arsenal, was sent off for two yellow card offences on his debut at Sheffield Wednesday and missed last week's draw with Ipswich, but Mellis received a straight red in the same match.

Reds boss Danny Wilson is hoping another recent signing, Crystal Palace defender Jack Hunt, can shake off a knock in time, but the experienced Bobby Hassell is still struggling with a calf problem.

Barnsley, second from bottom, have won only once on the road in the league this season, at Brighton in early December.
