Andy Williams bags brace as Doncaster dominate Stalybridge

Two goals from Andy Williams gave Doncaster a comfortable 2-0 FA Cup victory over Stalybridge in a match where there was never any hint of an upset.

The League one side grabbed the lead in the third minute and the visitors seldom threatened despite battling all the way.

Williams struck first with a low left-footed shot from close range after Nathan Tyson had cut the ball back from the byline on the left.

Despite dominating possession it was not until the 68th minute that Rovers scored again when Williams pounced to slam home from close range after Oliver Crowley had made a hash of an attempted clearance following a corner.

It was a rare mistake by the non league outfit that made Doncaster work hard for victory without really troubling their defence.

Bohan Dixon had a 20-yard free-kick tipped round the post by home keeper Thorsten Stuckmann just before the interval and Jack Higgins had a powerful header saved early in the second half.

But Rovers had the upper hand without ever having to hit top gear and went close to adding to their score several times with visiting keeper Tony McMillan doing well to parry a vicious angled shot from Felipe Mattioni in the closing stages.
