Shrewsbury get the better of Doncaster at the Keepmoat

Shrewsbury clinched a vital 1-0 victory in their bid to avoid relegation leaving fellow strugglers Doncaster without a win in their last 10 games.

A freak goal from Shaun Whalley clinched the game in the 63rd minute when he scored direct from an inswinging corner which flew in at the near post.

Rovers were by far the better side in the first half but could not make their pressure count as they failed to find the net for the third time in the last four games.

Visiting keeper Jayson Leutwiler did well to save from Luke McCullough and Lynden Gooch before distinguishing himself again to deny Andy Butler.

Shrewsbury's attempts at goal were few and far between but they came out with a real purpose in the second half to turn the tables with Whalley's decisive strike.

Doncaster were out of luck when Butler had a header cleared off the line by Ian Black with Leutwiler beaten following from Conor Grant.

Shrewsbury had Leutwiler to thank for ensuring three vital points when he made a magnificent save to tip away a free kick from Cameron Stewart in injury time.
