Darren Ferguson watches on as Doncaster slip to defeat

Darren Ferguson looked on as an opportunist goal from Devante Cole inside the first minute was enough to give Bradford a 1-0 victory at Doncaster in a hard-fought derby clash.

Rovers appointed Darren Ferguson as their new boss on Friday but he does not officially take charge until Sunday and adopted a watching brief in this match.

It was more of the same from Rovers in interim manager Rob Jones' last match in charge as the Bantams dominated for the first 20 minutes.

Cole fired them in front after 45 seconds when he pounced to tap home from close range after Rory McArdle had headed down a long throw from Lee Evans.

But after struggling in the opening stages, Doncaster took charge for the rest of the half inspired by veteran midfielder Richie Wellens.

Despite all their possession, however, City goalkeeper Ben Williams never had a first-half shot to save and was not troubled until the 72nd minute when he did well to stop a powerful volley from Andy Williams.

Rovers were unlucky when Keshi Anderson forced the ball home only to have the effort disallowed in the first half and they gave the visitors' defence a pounding after the interval but there was no end product and the Bantams held firm to clinch all three points.
