Marc Cullen winner heaps misery on struggling Doncaster

Marc Cullen's late strike for Blackpool inflicted a club-record seventh successive league defeat on Doncaster as the Seasiders won the crucial battle at the bottom of Sky Bet League One 1-0.

Rovers, enduring a miserable 2016, looked set for just a fourth point of the year until the 86th minute when Cullen ended a 12-game drought by firing in a deflected effort from eight yards out.

For much of the second half it was Doncaster who looked most likely to snatch the win as they bossed proceedings, but Tommy Rowe's curling effort from the edge of the area which crashed against the underside of the crossbar was the closest they came.

But an 11th defeat in the last 14 games, which has seen Rovers plummet, leaves them four points from safety, while Blackpool remain a point above the drop zone.

Neil McDonald's men will consider themselves good value for the win in terms of chances created as Cullen and Danny Philliskirk brought good saves from Rovers goalkeeper Remi Matthews in the first half, while David Norris' looping header was deflected on to a post by Craig Alcock midway through the second half.
