Southend draw a blank at Doncaster

Southend are still seeking their first win of the season after being forced to settle for a 0-0 draw at Doncaster, despite looking the livelier of the two sides.

Rovers, who remain unbeaten, struggled to get their act together in the first half and were clearly second best against the hard working visitors who rarely allowed them to settle.

Chances at both ends were few and far between but Southend's Cian Bolger headed just over the Doncaster bar following a first minute corner and David Worrall had an angled shot saved as the Seasiders forced the issue.

It was not until 20 minutes from time that Doncaster landed a shot on target, with substitute Richard Chaplow seeing his low effort saved at full stretch by Daniel Bentley after being put through by Richie Wellens.

But the visitors continued to carve out the better chances and home keeper Thorsten Stuckmann had to make a brilliant save to tip a curling effort from Michael Timlin over the bar in the 72nd minute.

Substitute Joe Pigott missed a good chance for Southend when he lobbed over the top with only Stuckmann to beat in the 87th minute and then Curtis Main hit a good chance wide at the other end.

Rovers' man of the match Stuckmann distinguished himself again with a super save from Worrall despite being unsighted deep into injury time to preserve a point for out of sorts Doncaster.
